New York Yankees fan, Robert Rector has filed a $10 million lawsuit against ESPN announcers Dan Shulman and John Kruk. Rector says they released an “avalanche of disparaging words”. During a fourth inning of America’s biggest baseball rivalry game back in April, Rector was pooped from what seems to be a long day in the office and decided to take a little nap. While the New York Yankees and Red Sox were stealing bases, ESPN TV announcers Shulman and Kruk went on a rant of insults which included statements like, he “is a fatty cow that need two seats at all time and represent symbol of failure”, and “a confused individual that neither understands nor knows anything about history and the meaning of rivalry between Red Sox and New York Yankee.” Twenty-six-year old Rector says he suffered “substantial injury” to his “character and reputation” and “mental anguish, loss of future income and loss of earning capacity.”
I think all of this is ridiculous! I find it amusing, even though I don’t think I should. I mean like come on! These announcers were obviously bored with the game themselves if they had the time to insult this man when he was clearly minding his own business in his dreams. However, I do think your boy Rob Rector is taking it a little far by suing ESPN for ten milli and trying to say that he suffered from “substantial injury” to his “character and reputation”. But hey, who I am to know what he’s going through. Yes Shulman and Kruk have their rights to freedom of speech, but I believe that Rector has a big pay day coming his way.
-Imagine the game, Chelle.
